Waterloo Regional Police Service Gang Unit

Mission Statement

Led by Sergeant Max West, WRPS Gang Unit is a joint task force between the Detectives Bureau and ERT to discover, investigate, and suppress gang activities and drug operations around Waterloo in order to keep the streets of Waterloo safe.

What We Do?

Patrol

General patrol of high-priority areas will be conducted for the purpose of gaining intelligence and/or investigating organized crime throughout Waterloo

Interactions

We will have interactions with people and/or vehicles that we suspect to be related to organized crime for the purpose of gaining information.


Investigations

Officers may continue with the investigation with gathered information or evidence to create a case. This case(s) will be used to conduct raid(s) and/or search warrant(s)

Requirements to join

Gang Unit

To be part of the gang unit, you must meet the following criteria to qualify for consideration. However, meeting those criteria doesn’t stand for assured entry to the task force.

  • Part of a subdivision: Detectives Bureau

    • Patrol Supervisors may apply for Gang Unit

  • Finished Probationary Status 7 days prior to application

  • No report of fail RP or disrespect

  • No improper use of force

  • No strike for 4 weeks prior to application

  • 10+ High-Quality Reports for 2 weeks prior to application
