Waterloo Regional Police Service Emergency Response Team
Mission Statement
The Emergency Response Team is to be deployed on calls where the situation is deemed too dangerous for frontline patrol constables. These situations can range from mental health calls to high risk scenarios. ERT constables will work to resolve situations that pose a significant threat to public safety and the safety of fellow law enforcement.

Emergency Response Team
The Emergency Response Team Subdivision accepts applications from individuals who have achieved the rank of Constable II or greater within the WRPS.
All applicants must have a clean disciplinary record from the past month prior to joining.
Applicants will be contacted within 1-3 days after submitting an application. If you are not contacted within 4 days, contact ERT Command
Responsibility
Emergency Response Team
ERT handles situations which include but are not limited to:
Critical incidents that require tactical intervention, such as barricaded suspects, armed robbery, vehicle pursuits that cause an extreme risk to the public, crimes involving firearms, reconnaissance, hostage taking and general high risk situations that place the public and or law enforcement at extreme harm.
Mental health incidents that require specially trained negotiators.
Investigations requiring ERT assistance. In these situations ERT members may assist detectives and gang unit members in scenarios such as executing search warrants.
