Our mission is to deliver exemplary investigative support to the Waterloo Regional Police Service Service through the use of advanced investigative techniques and forensic equipment. Driven by a commitment to uncovering truth, our investigators meticulously gather and analyze all available evidence in every case, ensuring justice by exonerating the innocent and prosecuting the guilty. Investigators recognize their responsibility to the community they serve and are committed to investigating all criminal allegations in an ethical and impartial manner, with special sensitivity to the needs of victims and witnesses. Investigators are steadfast in their resolve and will mobilize all available resources to accomplish their mission, despite any obstacles, discouragement, or danger.

Drug Suppression Operations
Collection and Analysis of Criminal Intelligence
Liaison with Local, State and Federal Investigative Agencies.
Background Investigations
Missing Persons Investigations
Internal Affairs Investigations (Upon request of WRPS High Command)
Maintaining Custody of Evidence
Sensitive/Special Interest Investigations (As directed by WRPS High Command.)
Requirements to join
Detective Bureau
In order for a Constable of the Waterloo Regional Police Service to become a member of the Detective Bureau, they must possess :
Rank of Constable III or higher
History of good conduct while serving with the Waterloo Regional Police Service
Attention to deal, with both on active scenes and paperwork
Must have a clean disciplinary record within the past month
Criminal Area Of Responsiblity
Detective Bureau
Investigators are required to investigate any Use of Force/OIS involving WRPS personnel, together with those involving other departments when requested.
Other crimes that fall within the Detective Investigative purview are as follows:
• Murder/Attempted Murder
• Rape, SA and any other crime of a sexual nature.
• Robbery/Armed Robbery
• Aggravated Assault
• Kidnapping
• Corruption
• Arson
• Acts of Terrorism
• Acts of Piracy
• Human Trafficking
• Drug Trafficking/Manufacture
• Conspiracy to commit the above
• Any other crimes that result in serious physical injury to a victim
• Any other crime which can result in a term of imprisonment of five years or more, as determined by the Penal Code.
