Waterloo Regional Police Service Aviation Division
Mission Statement
W.R.P.S Aviation is tasked with providing Air Support to both patrol and specialized units from all departments to improve public and officer safety, reduce the incidence and fear of crime, as well as to provide emergency transport of downed LEOs when ground transport is not feasible.
To accomplish this mission we provide rapid response, tactical insight and airborne assessments of ongoing incidents in a safe and effective manner. W.R.P.S Aviation maintains a high level of professionalism and members are subject to internal disciplinary procedures.

Command & Operations
Only one W.R.P.S helicopter may be active at any time, W.R.P.S currently operates a single Eurocopter AS350 Squirrel with tail number C-WRPS.
W.R.P.S air units may operate within city airspace and, when O.P.P air units are not available, W.R.P.S pilots are able to respond to requests from O.P.P units to operate in their airspace at both pilot and supervisor discretion. When O.P.P units are available, W.R.P.S are expected to coordinate operations with an eye towards promoting professional and friendly inter-departmental conduct
Requirements to join
Aviation Division
Requirements for entry into the W.R.P.S Aviation Division are as follows:
Minimum Constable 2 to begin training, Constable 3 to qualify
No strikes.
No reports of ANY disciplinary action within the previous two weeks.
Strong communication skills. Both in person and on radio.
Ability to work well with others and calmness under pressure.
Expectations and Responsibilities Aviation Division
Investigators are required to investigate any Use of Force/OIS involving WRPS personnel, together with those involving other departments when requested.
Other crimes that fall within the Detective Investigative purview are as follows:
• Murder/Attempted Murder
• Rape, SA and any other crime of a sexual nature.
• Robbery/Armed Robbery
• Aggravated Assault
• Kidnapping
• Corruption
• Arson
• Acts of Terrorism
• Acts of Piracy
• Human Trafficking
• Drug Trafficking/Manufacture
• Conspiracy to commit the above
• Any other crimes that result in serious physical injury to a victim
• Any other crime which can result in a term of imprisonment of five years or more, as determined by the Penal Code.
